Executive Women's Leadership Event in NYC

A week ago, I photographed C-Suite Women in the Boardroom: Strategic Negotiation for Growth and Governance, an invitation-only evening in Midtown Manhattan for 90+ senior women executives, led by negotiation strategist Yael Chayu.
The job was candid, unobtrusive coverage of an interactive workshop speaker, room, and real exchanges between leaders, delivered as an edited gallery within 2 hours for the hosts' marketing and follow-up.

Some negotiations are won before the meeting even begins. That line opened the event page, and it's a fair description of event photography too. Most of the work happens before the first frame: knowing the room, the run of show, and who does and doesn't want to be photographed.

The room was full of board members and C-suite leaders. People spoke openly about power, credit, and conflict. My job was to document that energy without becoming part of the room.

What was the event?

C-Suite Women in the Boardroom was billed as "Negotiation & Influence: An Interactive Evening for Senior Women Leaders." It brought together female executives and C-suite leaders who serve on boards and shape strategy. Attendance was by host approval, and 94 guests registered.

Yael Chayu led the session and specializes in business conflict resolution and strategic partnerships. Since 2015, she has advised on negotiations ranging from tens to hundreds of millions of dollars, with clients across the US, UK, France, Israel, Germany, China, and Australia. Andrea Craig, Jacob Zakif, Zeev Likwornik, and Roy Masuri co-hosted the evening.

How do you photograph an executive workshop without disrupting it?

Plan for discretion first, and coverage second. Senior leaders talk more freely when they forget the camera is there. Here's how I ran this one:

  1. Pre-event alignment. Before arrival, I confirmed the run of show, must-have shots, and any guests who preferred not to be photographed with the hosts.

  2. Quiet gear, no flash during the session. I used fast lenses and shot in available light so the workshop never stopped for me.

  3. Moving with the room, not through it. I shot from the edges during the talk and moved in only during breakouts and exercises.

  4. Documentary over posed. My background is photojournalism. I look for the exchange: a question landing, a nod across a table, rather than a lineup.

What did the hosts receive?

The hosts got a gallery built to be used, not just archived:

  • 200 edited images in a private online gallery

  • 20 same-night selects for social and LinkedIn posts while the event was still fresh

  • Full gallery in 3 business days

  • Web and print sizes, organized by speaker, audience, networking, and portraits

  • Speaker and host portraits usable for bios, press, and future event promotion

For an event like this, the photos keep working long after the night ends. They sell the next session, give speakers fresh imagery, and show sponsors and partners the caliber of the room. Kelmer Studio, led by photographer Ben Kelmer, covers corporate events, executive workshops, panels, and leadership dinners across New York City and New Jersey.
